Carlisle of Shelby: Duke Reveals Plan To Acquire Pisgah Company WASHINGTON Duke Power Co. of Charlotte has applied to the power commission for authority to acquire and merge the facilities of Pisgah Mountain Electric company of Lincolnton, N.C., into its system.

Announcing this Monday the commission said Duke had power agreed to pay Pisgah 4,000 shares of its common stock. Pisgah buys all its power from Duke, and a distribution system serving small porhas, tion of northern Gaston county and southern Lincoln county in North Carolina. The proposed merger would result in lower rates for Pisgah's present customers, Duke said in its application. Insurance Man Facing Trial HICKORY (UPI) Insurance agent Robert S. (Jack) Mullis Jr.

waived a preliminary hearing in City Court Monday and was bound over to the November term of Catawba Superior Court on charges of embezzlement. Agent James Nance of the N.C. Department of Insurance said that Mullis had embezzled $4,313 from the Nationwide Insurance Co. between Aug. 19 and Sept.

19. Nance said Mullis, who was freed under $1,000 bond, had made arrangements with' the company to repay the Mullis surrendered voluntarily, Nance said, and policyholders would not lose any money because of the alleged embezzlement. Bragg, was fatally injured Monday when his car collided head on with a truck about six miles north of here.

-P- Novelist H. H. (Pat) Frank, 57, author of "Alas Babylon," died Monday of inflammation of the pancreas. He had been writing material for the Democratic National Committee this election year. Frank's first book, "Mr.

Adam." was published shortly after World War II and was an immediate, success. Back The He Night." also a book about the Marines in Korea, and "Alas Babylon," a story of the aftermath of nuclear war. He was born in Chicago in 1907 and began his writing career as a reporter for the Jacksonville Journal. He later worked for the New York and Washington newspapers. Albemarle Man Dies In Smashup Of Automobile ALBEMARLE J.

C. He had been in declining health for six years. Born April 3, 1900 in Sumter. S. C.

his parents were the late Robert M. and Rebecca Bradford Lewis. He was a retired accountant of Humble Oil and Refining Co. and was with Esso Standard Oil Co. for 36 years before his retirement in 1958.

Mr. Lewis was a member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church where he was Ruling Elder Emeritus and former teacher of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 85. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m.
