AI not only helps us solve problems, but helps us get to the “essential” or more fulfilling work faster, leaving the non-essential work to be done for us. I call this idea the new 80/20 (give-or-take) rule. Let’s take my copier for example. In the past, I would spend 80% (or more) of an hour trying to figure out how to fix my printer and 20% (or much less) actually making a copy. What if, with the help of generative AI, we now spent only 20% of our time learning “the how” and 80% actually doing the essential work - instead of the reverse? We need to think differently when it comes to AI and education. This is a powerful tool, not a threat, but to understand this one must be educated about AI and what it truly is.
